Women On Water 2nd Annual Beginner Event a Big Success!
Women On Water, held its’ second annual Women’s Learn to Windsurf for Free Day, on June 7th at Crown Beach in Alameda, CA. The event was a great success, thanks to the many volunteers and sponsors who helped organize and put on the event. Approximately 70 windsurfing enthusiasts were at the event, including 11 volunteer instructors, 4 volunteer helpers, and 53 women participants. The women participants enjoyed a fun all day beginner lesson with on land simulator and on the water instruction, a free barbeque, and a raffle event with the leading prize of a free trip to Sailboard Vacations Aruba!
Women On Water is most grateful to all of our volunteer instructors who helped make our participant’s 1st exposure to windsurfing both fun and exciting! Jason Voss (former ABK instructor and instructional editor for Windsurfing Magazine) and Jim Hildebrandt led our on land simulator instruction; Jane Cormier (WOW founder), Cindy Ross, Vangie Ibarra, Ilana Brody, Dave Hedges, Steve Goldfinger, Bill Prinzmetal, Jack Piskorski, and Mark Paine led our on the water instruction. WOW also extends special thanks to our BBQ master chef Bill Boyd, our BBQ shopper Erika Padilla-Morales, and our sign-in ladies Benita Zimmerman and Rebecca Geffert!
The event would not have been possible without the generous support of our hosting site - Berkeley Boardsports (a.k.a. “The Shack”) and our barbeque sponsor – the San Francisco Boardsailing Association. WOW also received generous donations for our raffle event from windsurfing industry and women’s sports companies, including Sailboard Vacations, ABK Boardsports, Amber Coast Adventures, Adventurous Woman Sports, Dakine, and UltraNectar.
