National Racing Tour 2006 Intro

The 2006 US Windsurfing National Racing Tour

Now starting our 5th year, the 2006 USW NRT will joined at least 12 of the Nation's finest windsurfing events. The first four years of the NRT have been a great success with growing interest from racers and this year will be no different. Hundreds of competitors have been ranked in several different classes in events that ranged from drifters to raging wind howlers. The NRT has stirred the competive soul of plenty of windsurfer who are coming out of the woodwork to join hundreds of their friends in these competive and fun events.

As in years before, US Windsurfing will keep a national ranking for those classes that are part of the NRT. At the end of the NRT it will recognize the winners in various divisions from the racing classes. A top ranking in the USW makes for some pretty powerful braggin' rights!

The national race series is part of the organization's continuing push to develop amateur racing. This year the Prodigy class has been rolled into what is called the Hybrid class which includes any production board 11 feet or less in length with a centerboard. So far the big players seem to be Prodigy and RS:X, but other manufacturers have offerings that promise to make it a very interesting and hopefully competitive class.

The 2006 ranking has been kicked off by a new event for the NRT - the i to i Distance race in Florida. Thre were members from 3 or the 4 NRT Classes that participated, but some haven't been officially scored due to lack of membership status. Please support racing, your class and USW by renewing your membership and get those points counted!

The USW Nationals, which is an NRT event, will be held on Maui this year the 2nd week in August. It promises to be a great event and hopefully we'll see you there.

Series titles will be offered for the US Windsurfing recognized classes, which include "Formula Windsurfing", "Hybrid", "Formula Experience " and "Open". These will be presented after the last NRT event of the season which has traditionally been in Florida in early November.

If you windsurf and you like to race, join us for guaranteed good time!
